At the title screen, use the controller to choose between one player or two player play, then press the start button. In a one player game, you will always be the humanoid BinBowie. In a two player game, you and a friend can choose any of Paddle Fighter's eight characters. First, select the number of sets you wish to play and press the start button. Then, use the cursor to highlight the character you wish to use, then press any button to select them.
When the game begins, an air hockey table will appear, along with two black paddles and a bright red puck. Use the controller to move your paddle along your side of the table, and to strike the puck as it approaches. Naturally, the paddle cannot be moved to the other side of the table. To move the paddle more quickly, hold down the speed button, then press the controller in any direction. This lets you more effectively guard your goal and fire the puck back at the opponent with lightning speed.
Each player has force abilities which give them advantages against their opponent. Press the force defend button to shield your goal with an electric barrier...this barrier can withstand one hit from the puck before it flickers out and vanishes. Press the force attack button to confuse your rival with strange illusions. For instance, U-Mazler makes the puck spit out clones of itself, leaving her opponent wondering which of the pucks is the real thing. Players are granted three force abilities per match.
To score a point in Paddle Fighter, slide the puck past your opponent's paddle and into their goal. The first player to score seven points is the winner of the match. In a one player game, you will move on to challenge a more difficult opponent. Defeat them all and you win the game! Lose a match and you'll have to start from the beginning.
The illusions the opponent use against you are just that- illusions. Don't let them distract you from the puck, and if necessary, counter them by sealing the opening of your goal with an electric barrier.
Be unpredictable with your return serves. One fun way to score a point is to bounce the puck off the back of the other player's paddle and into their goal!
As play progresses, each player's goal widens, making it easier to score points. You'll have to be especially careful after three minutes, when the goal is nearly as wide as the end of the table!
