Getting Started
Before you can start Praetorians, you'll need to make a profile for yourself. Type in your name, then click Create to create your profile. Next, click Accept to confirm your choice. You'll be taken to the main menu. Click Single Player to begin a single player game, then Campaign to start the game's story mode. Finally, click one of the missions on the left hand side of the screen, and click Accept to start that mission.
Controls
When the mission begins, you can explore the playfield by pressing the arrow keys on the keyboard. When you're ready to command your troops, put the cursor on one of your soldiers, then click the left mouse button to select him. You can also select multiple soldiers by holding down the left mouse button and dragging a box over the soldiers you wish to select. Finally, move the cursor to where you'd like the soldiers to march, then click the right mouse button.
Combat
Fighting the enemy is easy! Just select your troops, then move the cursor over the soldiers you wish to battle and click the right mouse button. Your soldiers will engage the opposing force, trading blows until either the enemy has been eradicated or your own troops have been defeated. You may also use a soldier's special abilities, like the Scout's hawk, by selecting that soldier, then clicking one of the icons shown on the bottom center of the screen.
Missions
You'll be given an objective at the beginning of each mission. It's up to you to finish that objective before the Gauls, barbarians, and Egyptians finish you! If all of your troops are defeated in battle, you will lose the mission and be forced to start it from the beginning. Fortunately, you can keep this from happening by regularly saving your progress. Hold control and press S to save the game, and hold control and press L to load a previously saved game.
Tip: Know Your Troops
There are several troop types in Praetorians, with each type guaranteed to succeed in certain combat situations and doomed to fail in others. For instance, the archers that are extremely effective from a distance will be massacred in close combat. Learn what strengths and weaknesses each division of your army has, and use them to your advantage.
