Basics
Rayman is a 3D platform game, which means you'll be doing lots of jumping and collecting things as you fight to save the Lums. Rayman has many skills to learn. Fortunately, the game begins with a tutorial to help you become acquainted with all of his different abilities -- he can jump, hover, punch, swim and even use vehicles.
Goals
The goal of the game is to defeat the Hoodlums, who really are nice guys down inside, just misguided. (Call it tough love.) The Hoodlums will try to stop you in many ways. Sometimes you will find Red Lums, who are still good -- if you find one, rescue it and it will restore some of your health!
Powerups
As you play, you will find many different collectibles to pick up. Each of these boosts Rayman's power in some way, so pick up anything you can find. But don't put yourself needlessly at risk for trinkets -- if you don't think you can safely reach a collectible, don't worry too much about it. Better safe than sorry, for there are many hazards in Rayman's world: monsters, bottomless pits, and dangerous patches of floor.
Bosses
At the end of certain stages, you will encounter a boss. Bosses are much more powerful than other enemies and will be very difficult to defeat. You must destroy a boss before you can proceed to the next stage. Watch its attacks and patterns very carefully to learn its weaknesses!
Health
Rayman begins the game with several lives and a certain amount of energy. Certain hazards (like pits) can be instantly fatal, while others will simply drain some of Rayman's health. When Rayman's health is completely depleted, he loses a life. When all your lives are gone, the game ends. Fortunately, you can continue at the beginning of the most recent stage.
Tip: Powerups
Rayman can collect an impressive number of powerups that last a brief time. While powered up, he can pull off special tricks, like shrinking enemies and even flying. These disappear quickly, so only pick them up when you really need them!
Tip: Minigames
The minigames can be a welcome diversion from the adventure. If you find yourself stuck, spend some time playing the minigames for inspiration.
