Game Types

There are three ways to play Ride! Carnival Tycoon: the freestyle Sandbox Mode, the longer, management-heavy Career Mode, and the quick-challenge Mission Mode. Read on to see exactly what these modes entail.

Sandbox Mode

In Sandbox Mode, you can choose to play in any venue for as long as you’d like without worrying about money. This is where you can build your ultimate dream park, without all the hassle of management and number crunching.

Career Mode

In Career Mode, you play the role of a carnival entrepreneur, from humble beginnings all the way to a wealthy Carnival Tycoon. You’ll have to earn your money to build attractions and hire workers, and some venues, rides and items will not be available until you reach a certain rank.

Mission Mode

The Mission Mode is a series of specific goals that need to be met before the end of a business day. For example, you may be asked to earn a specific amount of money, or attract a minimum number of patrons. These are specific, challenging scenarios, with resources, cash and attraction types limited at the beginning of play.

Patrons

In order to build a successful carnival, your main job is to attract patrons, and to milk them for money by keeping them happy. Fun is only part of the equation, your patrons also need food, drinks, rest areas, and bathrooms. Eventually every patron is going to leave your carnival. If they leave happy, they will tell their friends and attract even more people. If they leave unhappy, the opposite will happen – they'll spread word of their bad time and dissuade people from coming!

Carnival Workers

No one can run an entire carnival by themselves; you're going to need to hire additional staff to help out. Carnival workers have two functions – they maintain your equipment and keep the park clean. Workers will constantly patrol the carnival and clean up any trash they find. Make their jobs easier by ensuring your park has adequate trash facilities. Workers will also repair any ride that is closed and has its repair box checked – it is up to you to close a problematic attraction, but once you do, your staff will do the dirty work.

Power

Just about everything in your carnival requires power to operate, even the ticket booth. Some venues will provide a small amount of power to help you get started. However, as your carnival grows, you must increase your power supply by renting generators. Be sure to monitor your power levels and rent additional generators as they’re needed. It may be tempting to run them at or near maximum capacity, but keep in mind that this will wear them out faster.

Maintenance

If you do not keep your equipment in working order, it may break down. All rides require maintenance, more so if they've been running for a long time. Additionally, power generators will break down much faster if they are running near their peak capacity. To repair an item, you must close it down AND check on its repair box. This will cause your maintenance staff to automatically come over and repair it. If you neglect to repair an attraction, it may break down entirely. When this happens, it can not be repaired and you will lose any deposit paid for it.

Tip: Watch Your Patrons

The secret to a successful carnival, just as in any business, is to listen to your customer’s needs and make adjustments on the fly. Simply click on any patron in the park to get a quick overview of what’s going on in their head; if they can’t find the restroom, consider relocating it or building a new one. If they think your tickets are too expensive, consider adjusting the price.

Tip: Ride!

Every carnival tycoon has to unwind once in a while and what better way than riding on her own attractions? Click on a ride to bring up its sub-menu and click on the "Ride” button to hop on and see a first-person view. Clicking on "Ride” subsequent times will change seats. Make sure the ride is active and your carnival is open to get the full effect.
