Basic Controls

Move your character with the standard [W] [A] [S] [D] combination. Zoom the camera with the mouse wheel or the [+] and [-] keys. Command your creatures by first clicking with the left mouse button on one to select it, and then right click on the place you would like it to move to. The creature will perform a default action based on the current situation. Select a creature and right click on a second friendly creature to guard it. Right click on an enemy creature to have your friendly creature attack it.

The Game Screen

Before beginning the fight, take some time to familiarize yourself with the in-game screen, specifically the Unit Selection Pane, Soul Counter, Mana Bar, Life Bar, Mini Map and Spell Tabs. Read on for more details.

Unit Selection Pane

The Unit Selection Pane is represented by two rows of six rings on the left side of the screen. Each ring can be populated by up to twelve creatures that you’ve selected at a time for movement. To the right of this grid is another ring that displays a creatures special ability; note that not all creatures have special abilities, but if they do, click here to activate it.

Soul Counter

The Soul Counter is located on the left-most section of the upper-right portion of the game screen. The number displayed here indicates how many souls you have available for creature summoning. Summoning small creatures requires only one soul, while larger creatures may call for two or more. If your soul count is inadequate, you will have to collect more souls or convert others before you can summon more creatures.

Mana & Life Bars

Immediately to the right of the Soul Counter are the Mana and Life Bars. The Mana Bar (blue) shows how much mana you have left for casting spells. If your mana drops below 25%, you will receive a warning. The Life Bar (red) shows how much life your wizard has left before he is killed. If your wizard dies, you will change into spectral form, and will no longer be able to cast spells or collect souls (though you may continue commanding your creatures).

Mini-Map

On the lower-right of your screen is a bird's eye view of your immediate surrounding area. Places you have already seen are visible, and places you have not yet been are blackened out with the "fog of war.” Your wizard appears as an oblong white shape directly in the middle of the mini-map. Other creatures appear as dots, colored according to their team affiliation. Your creatures and buildings will appear as small grey arrows on the mini-map's border if they are out of immediate range, so you will always know which direction to travel to get to them.

Options

Sacrifice provides a robust Options menu. "Graphics Options” allows you to set your resolution and 3D settings, toggle fog and blood on and off, and more. "Sound Options” lets you adjust volume levels. "Keyboard Options” lets you adjust the default controls. "Miscellaneous” lets you adjust mouse settings, tutorial tips, friendly fire, and other miscellany. And finally, "System Information” is Sacrifice's interactive troubleshooting screen.

Spell Tabs

On the lower left hand corner of the game screen are three spell tabs. All the way to the left is the Creature Spell Tab, which allows wizards to create creatures. In the middle is the Combat and Healing Spell Tab, which are offensive and defensive spells that include attacking and healing. And finally on the right is the Structure Spell Tab, which are spells dealing with buildings such as Altars and Manaliths. The conversion spell, which converts a slain enemy's soul, is also located here.

Main Menu

Start a new game by selecting "Single Player,” or select "Multiplayer” to begin an online match. "Load Game” will allow you to resume a prior save file, "Options” lets you adjust the graphics, sound, and controls, and "Quit” will return you to GameTap.

Tip: Tutorials

We recommend that first-time Sacrifice players view the game’s Tutorials, available within the "Single Player” sub-menu. "Tutorial 1” will teach you basic wizard movement, spell casting and creature commands. "Tutorial 2” teaches you how to control creatures during battle, in addition to keeping an eye on their life force and mana. Finally, "Tutorial 3” teaches you advanced spell casting techniques.

Tip: She's Got A Whole Lot of Lore

The world of Sacrifice has a deep, storied history. Reading up on it will not only help you out in your journey, it will also expand your enjoyment of the game. The Sacrifice game manual – all 120+ pages of it – is included here for your convenience.
