Basics
Sam & Max is a point-and-click adventure game. You control Sam directly, and Max tags along. To move, simply click your mouse where you want them to go. Your goal is to investigate the mischief caused by the pesky Soda Poppers as they relentlessly promote Brady Culture's Ocular Fitness videos. But there's more to this case than meets the eye!
Items
As you move your mouse around the screen, many items will be highlighted with a name. Click on those items to interact with them. Usually the result is some expository or humorous dialog, but sometimes Sam will pick up the item to take with him. You may access your inventory by clicking the box on the lower-left corner of the screen.
Dialog
Clicking on a person will initiate a conversation. When it's Sam's turn to speak, click on your response from the menu shown. Max will butt in from time to time with his own outlook, but there are a few sequences where his input is important enough to warrant his own menu. In these cases, there are icons on the left side of the dialog menu that let you switch between the different dialog options for Sam and Max.
Tip: Violence Solves Everything
Remember that Sam carries an oversized revolver with him at all times. This oft-overlooked item is the solution to many of the game's challenges, although a kid-friendly game rating keeps you from causing any direct bodily harm.
Tip: The DeSoto
Their vehicle of choice is a 1960 DeSoto Adventurer. In the game's driving sequences, you can control the steering with the mouse -- the accelerator is on automatic! Sam can still access the inventory of items while driving, although this means (oh no!) Max will have to take the wheel.
