Incredible Newness

Season Two introduces some new features to Sam & Max. By double clicking, you can make Sam pick up the pace and arrive at his destination faster. Also, by clicking and holding down the mouse button, Sam will give in to his canine instincts and follow your cursor around wherever it goes. And best of all, there is a new hint system that players can enable at any time if the game’s puzzles prove too difficult!

Getting Started

If this is your first game of Sam & Max, the Computer Obsolescence Prevention Society will help you set up your video, sound, and game options settings before you begin. If you’ve played Sam & Max before and are familiar with the controls, you can jump right into Ice Station Santa. If not, you can go through the tutorial to get a handle on things.

Controls

If you've played any other point-and-click adventure, you'll be more or less familiar with the controls for Sam & Max. If you played the previous episodes, the controls are exactly the same! Just click on a bit of floor to move Sam & Max to that spot. Click on an object to interact with it, or click on a person to initiate a conversation.

Items

As you move your mouse around the screen, many items will be highlighted in green. Click on those items to interact with them. Usually the result is some expository or humorous dialog, but sometimes Sam will pick up the item to take with him. You may access your inventory by clicking the box on the lower-left corner of the screen.

Tip: Menu

Click the icon that looks like a gear in the top-left corner of the screen. This will open the game menu, allowing you to save or load your game progress, set your game options, restart your game or quit.

Tip: Sudden Genre Shift

Occasionally, Ice Station Santa will switch to a more arcade-like control scheme for certain sections of the game. But don’t panic, point and click fans! When this happens, you’ll be given a rundown of the controls before you begin. In many cases, you can control these sections using the keyboard along with – or instead of – the mouse.
