Getting Started

Press the one player start button to begin your battle against the warlord and his army of undead soldiers, then the two player button if you'd like to invite a friend to fight by your side. After a brief explanation of the game's play mechanics, you'll appear on the left hand side of the screen. The first player has black hair and a red jacket, while the second player wears a cowboy hat and lavender pants.

Controls

Press the joystick in any direction, and your fighter will walk in that direction. Tap the attack button, and you'll pound your enemies with punches and kicks. Press the jump button to jump upward; you can perform a leaping kick by pressing attack immediately after you jump. Finally, you can perform a special attack by holding down the attack button for three seconds. When your fighter's hand glows, release the button to unleash a searing wave of magic fire!

Lives

You begin Sengoku with three lives, each with a limited supply of health. Health is shown at the top of the screen as an orange bar, and you'll lose this vitality each time an enemy strikes you with a sword or other weapon. When the orange bar is reduced to nothing, your fighter shrivels away, and you'll lose a life. Lose all your lives and the game ends. Don't let that nasty warlord win! Press the one or two player start button before time expires to return to the action!

Powerups

Defeated foes will sometimes release spirit orbs. Jump up while standing under the orbs to collect them. Every orb but the green ones give you swords and other weapons, while ten of the green orbs will partially refill your life bar. You can also find allies held captive by the warlord's ninjas. Slay the ninjas, and the allies become yours to command. Press the change button, then left or right on the controller, then attack to assume the form of one of these undead heroes.

Tip: All That Glitters...

The mysterious golden orb gives you the best weapon in the game, a spinning fire wheel that allows you to attack foes from a distance. Rescuing the old man from the warlord's soldiers awards you with the game's second best weapon, lethal blue waves of energy.

Tip: One Man Army

Just because you have allies doesn't mean you have to use them. In most cases, the default fighter is the right man for the job, although your partners can be useful against some of Sengoku's bosses.
