Options

Within each play mode, you'll have all the match customization options you could possibly desire. You can choose which teams play, which pitch they play on, the stadium setting, and more! In league matches, many of these options are preset for you, but you can still choose how many and which teams will compete in the league, and several other settings.

Getting Started

Sensible Soccer has several different play modes. From the main menu, choose "Friendly" to play a single match -- good for a quick game, or for beginners to get used to things. DIY Competition and Preset Competition are both league matches with several games in a row. You can also set your options and customize your team.

Controls

To kick the ball in the direction your player is facing, press the [X] key. This is often inaccurate and takes some skill to get the ball where you want it to go. To pass to a teammate or shoot for the goal, press [Z]; your player will automatically kick the ball in the direction of a teammate or the opposing team's goal.

Movement

Controls for Sensible Soccer couldn't be simpler. You control the player closest to the ball; this player is usually highlighted with an arrow pointing in the direction he's running. Move with the directional keys; running into an opposing player will attempt to steal the ball from him.

Goals

Of course, the point of the game is to kick the ball into the opposing team's goal while preventing the opposing team from kicking the ball into your own goal. Scoring a goal earns your team one point. You're usually asked how much time a given game will take in the pre-game options menu; when time runs out, the team with the most points wins the match.

Tip: Unlockables

As a reward for completing Division matches, winning Cup trophies and other notable feats, you're given different uniforms, hair styles and more customization options for your team. Nothing says "team identity" quite like eleven guys with puffy afros and lederhosen running around the pitch…

Tip: Sprint

Press the Spacebar to sprint. This increases your player's running speed, but drains his stamina. When sprinting, you'll see a meter above your player's head indicating how much energy he has left.
