Welcome to New Atlantis

Shadowgrounds is a top-down action game, meaning that the camera peers down from above at the top of your avatar’s head. Though game controller options are available, by default Shadowgrounds controls like a first-person shooter: use the WASD keys to move around and strafe, aim with the mouse, click to fire your primary weapon, spin the mouse wheel to change guns and right click to fire your secondary. Wesley can also dive and roll by tapping the Space key, which is good for avoiding enemy fire.

Batteries Suck In The Future, Too

Ganymede’s extreme distance from the sun leaves its inhabitants shrouded in an eternal night, but luckily Wesley has a handy shoulder-mounted flashlight equipped at all times, leaving his hands free for more important matters like bridging the gap between a bullet and a bug creature’s brain. The batteries get drained pretty fast, but luckily they recharge when not in use. To turn the flashlight off or on, simply press the [F] key.

Below the Surface

Though most of Shadowground’s plot points are revealed in cutscenes and through interaction with other characters, New Atlantis’ various computer terminals and PDA’s help flesh out the story into something much deeper. Check every one of these that you see with the Use button (by default, [E]), otherwise you may miss important clues, or the “mechanic frustrated by consistently broken vending machines” subplot. Messages are automatically saved to your log, accessible by pressing [L].

Let's Shoot Stuff!

Having a solid plot is nice and all, but let’s not forget the most important part of Shadowgrounds: spraying bullets into giant bugs! Wesley can find a wide assortment of weapons around New Atlantis, including a pulse rifle, shotgun, and more. The default pistol has unlimited bullets, but unfortunately you’ll have to find ammo to keep the other guns full. Your weapons can also be upgraded with modules you occasionally find, press Enter to bring up the upgrade screen.

Tip: Objectives

Forget what you’re doing? Don’t sweat it. Simply press [Tab] to bring up the level map, along with a list of your current objectives.

Tip: Oh My God I¿m Bleeding

Fortunately for Wesley’s health, New Atlantis is full of useful medkits. Simply touch one to revive health, but be sure to conserve in case of emergencies!
