Basics
As with most point-and-click adventures, the controls in The Awakened are straightforward. Use WSAD to move Holmes through the world. Use the left mouse button to interact with people or objects. If you walk up to a person, left click to start a conversation automatically. For objects, you will see a cursor appear over that object if it is able to be used or picked up.
Inventory
Use the I key to open the inventory screen where all your items can be viewed. Once here, you can left click on an item to put it in your hand for use, or you can drag and drop on another object to try to combine them. From this screen, you can also access the dialogue tab to review conversations, the documents tab to view papers you have picked up, the research tab to see what Holmes may have discovered through analysis, and the map.
Map
The map can also be accessed directly with the M key. From here, you can see all the key locations that you have visited in a given area. Once you have a location available on the map, you can also use the left mouse button on it to "warp" to that location to speed your investigations along.
Detective Work
Besides simply finding objects, Holmes may occasionally need to examine clues more closely. When out in the field, you can use your magnifying glass and tape measure in certain locations to get more information. You can also take some objects back to Baker Street for further analysis at Holmes' laboratory. Use the microscope, chemicals, and other tools to gather details.
Tip: It's Elementary, Watson
From time to time, Holmes will quiz Watson directly about what they should do next, to see if Watson has come to the same conclusions. You must answer for Watson by typing your answer in to the box provided. If you aren't sure, go back over the case so far in your head, and re-examine your inventory and documents to make sure that you haven't missed anything.
Tip: Save Often
Unlike some other adventure games, The Awakened is not completely safe, and it is possible in some areas to die or fail and lose the game. To prevent having to start all over from scratch, make sure to save frequently to keep your progress.
