Basics

With the Aegis badly damaged, it’s up to you to pilot your tiny scouting craft out into the voids of space to gather the materials needed to repair the Aegis and find your way home. In an odd twist of responsibility, it’s also your job to manage weapons R&D and building projects to create new ships. The Aegis is in your hands.

Controls

Game menus are navigated by mouse, but ship piloting is controlled by the keyboard. Use the left and right arrows to turn your ship counterclockwise and clockwise. Hold the up key to apply thrust, or hold the down key to go in reverse. You can quickly traverse the expanses of space by double-tapping and holding the up key to put on the afterburners.

Combat

While secondary to mining, fighting off the aliens who got you into this mess in the first place is an important part of the game. Carefully navigate your ship to avoid their fire, then press the [Q] key to shoot back! You can hold down [Q] to charge up a spreading shot that hits multiple enemies at once. If you have rockets, you can fire those with [E].

Mining

When you’re not under attack, you can harvest resources from asteroids. Fire on large asteroids with your cannon and, like video game asteroids have for decades, they’ll split into smaller and faster rocks. When destroyed, asteroids will leave three different colors of resource crystals. Press [E] to activate your gravity gun to pull them into your ship.

The Aegis

After you’ve docked with the Aegis and have blasted off, you can navigate the menus to guide your research and development, build new parts for new spacecraft and navigate the interstellar voids in search of more resources and alien enemies. It sounds complicated, but the game will walk you through each process as you complete the first few levels.

Tip: Limited Space

Your ship can only hold so many minerals before it’s full. Return to the Aegis and dock with it to unload your cargo and make any needed repairs to your craft. Once you’re done, you can resume your duties to collect minerals.

Tip: Handle With Care

The tiny resource crystals are somewhat fragile. If they bump into asteroids, your ship, or each other, they might shatter! It can be difficult to keep all of the crystals intact before you can haul them in, but keep your eyes out for any that might be in trouble.

Tip: Crew Rescue

You start with only five crewmen able to work on either research or the building of new weapons and ship parts. As you progress you will have the chance to rescue other crew missing from the Aegis, allowing you to take on a bigger workload, work on two projects at once, or finish a single project more quickly.
