Getting Started
At the title screen, click either Missions to select a single mission, or Campaign to tackle them all starting with the easiest. After you've made your selection, you'll proceed to the preparation screen. Choose one of the missions on the left side of the screen, then click the drop-down box on the top right corner to select a submarine. Once you're satisfied with your choices, click the check mark on the bottom of the screen twice to start the game.
Controls
The game begins in the ship control view. You'll use the instruments on the control panel to control your sub; simply click an instrument to adjust its value. Click the rudder and course gauges to change the direction of your sub. Click the speed gauge to change your speed. You can also access secondary functions like the sonar meter at the top of the screen by clicking on buttons and switches.
Map
Press the F7 button to switch to the navigation view. This displays a map of the area, along with a small screen containing your submarine and its immediate surroundings. The bottom right of the screen lists the ship's current speed, depth, and course. Move the cursor over the digits shown next to these settings and click the left mouse button to increase them, or the right mouse button to decrease them.
Markers
You can mark specific areas of the map in the navigation view. This comes in handy for highlighting areas of the map you need to visit in order to finish the current mission. First, right click any part of the map and a small drop-down menu will appear. Select Drawing Tools, then click Add Mark. Finally, click anywhere on the map to drop a mark. Any marks you've dropped can also be hidden by right clicking, clicking Drawing Tools, then clicking Hide Marks.
Alternate Views
Other views can be accessed by pressing the function keys on the top of the keyboard. Press F2 to check your sonar and get a detailed view of objects near your ship. Press F3 to switch on your radar and locate distant objects. Click F4 to access your radio, and F6 to examine your weapon payload. Finally, press F8 to view objects on the surface with your periscope. When you're finished, press F1 to return to your ship's control panel.
Damage
Your submarine will take damage if it's struck by enemy torpedoes, or if it crashes into the ocean floor. Sustaining damage has severe consequences, ranging from system failure to the complete destruction of your ship! Luckily, you can save the game at any time, allowing you to return to that save point rather than starting the mission from scratch when your sub is destroyed. Just press the Escape key and click Save Game to record your progress.
Tip: Mission Impossible?
Each mission is marked with a number of stars in the Missions mode. If you're having difficulty playing the game, pick a mission with only one star.
Tip: One Sub Doesn't Fit All
Each submarine has different strengths and weaknesses that makes it ideal in certain conditions and a poor choice in others. Take all of the game's subs for a test drive to get a feel for them all, and find the one that you like best.
