Basics
Your goal is to lay claim to at least 75% of the playing field by using your marker to draw rectangles while avoiding Sparx, Fuses and the floating Qix. Hold the draw button while pushing the direction pad in any direction to start drawing. Complete a rectangle and you've laid claim to that area. As you complete rectangles, powerups may appear. Grab them to claim bonus points, a shield...or the power to freeze all of your enemies for a limited period of time.
Enemies
But be careful. If the Sparx or Fuse touches your marker, you'll lose a life. Even worse, the floating Qix only needs to touch an uncompleted rectangle to end your life, so steer clear of it at all costs.
Tip: Two Towers
Draw two tall rectangles directly opposite one another early on in each level. Then simply draw a short line between the tops of the two to easily claim a huge chunk of the playing field.
Tip: Bonus Letters
Besides powerups, large rectangles sometimes uncover letters. Grab these in order to spell the word at the top of each area and earn some bonus points. Sometimes you'll get duplicate letters, though, so don't risk your credits going after ones you've already got.
Tip: Time Freeze
If you happen to uncover the Time Freeze powerup, quickly draw a very small rectangle around the frozen Qix. You'll claim everything outside the rectangle, generally finishing the level. If you're able to claim 98% or more of the level this way, you'll earn an extra credit.
