The Story

Tensions have risen between Japan, China and North Korea, following Japan's creation of an Information Self-Defense Force (I-SDF). North Korea and China threaten shipping blockades, and Japan requests U.S. assistance, in accordance with American obligations under Article 9 of the Postwar Constitution. As nations begin to mobilize and the United States dispatches assistance, the Third Echelon gets wind of a seemingly unrelated incident that may have global repercussions, and sends field operative and Splinter Cell main character Sam Fisher to investigate.

Basic Controls

Move with the [W] [A] [S] [D] combination. Cycle between weapons and gadgets with [Ctrl], get your back to the wall with [Q], use or equip an item with [E], and reload with [R]. Crouch with [C], jump or climb with [Shift], interact with the environment with [Space], and open the menu screen with [Esc]. Fire your weapon with the left mouse button, and use a weapon’s alternate fire with the right mouse button. Consult the included manual or the in-game menus for more detailed controls.

Sam's Snazzy Goggles

Sam’s expensive eyewear allows him to instantly turn on and off Night Vision, Thermal Vision and EMF Vision. Night Vision [2] allows you to see in the dark, Thermal Vision [3] gives you a view of anything giving off heat (including hidden enemies!) and EMF Vision [4] gives you a view of any electronics nearby, including computers and security cameras.

Using the OPSAT

The OPSAT – or the Operational Satellite Uplink – is a military-issued, wrist-mounted PDA. During the game, press [F1] to open the OPSAT. Here you can view your current mission goals, Sam’s notes, data recovered in-game, a map of the current mission area, and an overview of Sam’s equipment.

Tip: Sneaky Sneaky

As with all Splinter Cell titles, Chaos Theory relies on the player’s ability to be stealthy. Remember to crouch whenever possible to quiet your footsteps and reduce your visibility, put your back to the wall to hide, and shimmy around on ledges to stay out of the enemy’s view.

Tip: Survey Your Surroundings

Make a habit of scanning every new area you come across with all of your vision options. There might be an enemy behind a wall or a security camera in your path.
