Basics

Lara Croft's goal is to explore each new level, solving puzzles, shooting bad guys, and finally locating the whereabouts of lost treasure. You can play Chronicles either with the keyboard or a game pad. We'll discuss the keyboard functions here. All controls can be remapped using the option in the pause screen (get there by pressing "p" at any time during the game.

Movement

Move Lara around the game world using the four arrow keys. Up will run her forward, back will make her hop back, and left and right will either pivot her if she's standing still, or veer left or right while running. To make Lara walk (and consequently stop before she falls off any ledges), hold the "shift" key while moving. Holding the shift key while pressing left or right will also make Lara sidestep.

Interaction

The "ctrl" key is Lara's action button, and will accomplish most feats in the game. Hold the action button while running toward a ledge and Lara will pull herself up. Hold it while jumping and Lara will grab any ledges she can reach as she falls. Press the action button around any switches you find to activate them, as well as pick up any items Lara is standing near.

Weapons

Press the "space bar" to draw Lara's weapons, and the action button to fire. You can choose to equip different weapons using the inventory screen. Remember that Lara cannot grab ledges or throw switches while her guns are drawn.

Athletics

Press the "alt" key to make Lara jump. Lara can jump in all four directions. Press and hold the "." key while running to make Lara dash for a short while. While dashing, pressing the jump button will make Lara perform a diving roll, which is great for getting through low openings or closing doors.

Tip: Slow Down

If you're running around everywhere you go, you're bound to fall off a ledge somewhere. Make sure you're walking when you need more delicate steps.

Tip: Use 'Em Up

Since every stage is a different part of history, you don't get to keep ammunition and items from previous levels. Use your gear as you need it; saving it will do you little good.
