Characters

Zoya the Silent, the thief, is fast and agile. She has a bow and arrows to attack enemies from afar, and a grappling hook that allows you to grab onto any wooden surface or object. Once grappled, you can swing or climb with the rope. Amadeus the Magnificent, the wizard, has the ability to create and manipulate objects in the world. To create an object, just use the cursor to draw the size and shape you want, and it will appear. At the start of the game, Amadeus will only be able to create one box at a time, but later you will have the option of creating new shapes and more objects at once. Amadeus can also lift and move objects by moving the cursor over them and using the action button. Pontius the Brave, the knight, has a traditional sword and shield combo, allowing melee attacks and blocking.

Experience

As you kill enemies in the game, you will occasionally gain experience, which will display as green energy. When you gain experience, the experience meter in the top right corner will increase. You can also gain experience by picking up green bottles that are scattered throughout the various game levels. Each time you gain 50 points, your heroes will level up, and they will each gain an upgrade point that you can apply to weapons or skills. Upgrades may take more than one point, so you may want to save your points on some levels. Each weapon can be upgraded twice.

Tip: Exploration

Though you may find some experience and treasures chests sitting out in the open, most are hidden and will only be found by poking around the nooks and crannies of each level. So it is worth it to take your time and try examining all areas of the level, particularly up high.

Items

As you travel through the world, you may occasionally run across treasure chests. Inside each chest is an item that you can equip. Some of these are character specific and serve as new weapons or skills, and these will automatically be given to the correct character. Others, such as armor, are more generic and can be used on any character. If you want to move an item from the character that opened the chest, you can use the items screen, highlight the object you want to move, then move the cursor to a different character.

Tip: Don't Just Stand There

Your enemies are both clever and relentless, and generally won't let boxes, ledges, or other obstacles get in their way. Don¿t assume that just because there is a box, gap, or wall between you and a group of skeletons that you are safe.

Basics

Trine is an action/puzzle platfomer where your goal is just to get from one end of the level to the other, but it won't be as simple as it sounds. Spike pits, rotating platforms, and swinging bridges are some of the obstacles in your way, and the undead army is everywhere. Each of your three heroes has different skills, and you will need to use all of them to successfully navigate the world of Trine. For example, you may need to use your thief's grappling hook to swing across a chasm, or use the wizard's boxes to scale a wall. To move, use the WSAD keys, plus spacebar to jump. Use the left mouse button for each hero's primary weapon, and the right mouse button for the secondary skill. To swap characters, press the 1, 2, and 3 keys. To open the items menu, press the I key. You will also run across checkpoints along the way that look like glowing orbs. Every time you pass a checkpoint, your progress will be saved, any dead characters will be revived, and all characters will be refilled to half health.
