Gameplay
Playing Unreal Tournament is pretty straightforward. Move with the WSAD keys, fire with the left mouse, alternate fire with the right mouse, and swap weapons with the mousewheel or number keys. The single-player game is known as Campaign mode, in which you and your AI teammates fight against AI opponents in three different mission types: deathmatch, capture the flag, and warfare. In deathmatch, your goal is simply to rack up as many kills as possible. CTF involves stealing the enemy's flag and running it back to your base. Warfare is a modified control point style game in which you will need to destroy enemy power nodes, then build your own. Eventually, you will be able to attack the enemy's main node to win the mission.
Vehicles
UT3 includes a variety of powerful vehicles to control ranging from the small Scorpion or Manta up to Goliath tanks and even the Leviathan super-tank. Hit E to enter/exit the vehicle, then controls work the same as when you're on foot. For some vehicles, there are both driver and rider slots with different weapons. Vehicles have a good amount of protection, but you're not invincible, so keep an eye on the vehicle health gauge in the lower right, and watch especially for opponents with a Longbow or Redeemer.
Tip: It's in the Cards
In the Campaign mode, your victories will occasionally earn you cards, with bonuses such as reducing the number of opponents on the field. These cards can then be used on future missions to give you a leg up on the competition.
Weapons and Powerups
The weapons list for UT3 is pretty similar to the weapons of older Unreal games, with traditional weapons such as the chaingun, rocket launcher, or sniper rifle, plus more unusual weapons like the flak cannon or shock rifle. The one new addition is the Longbow, an anti-vehicle missile launcher that packs a significant punch. Weapons will spawn all over the map, so keep an eye out for them. Along with weapons, you will also be able to find health, armor, or special powerups such as berserking or extra damage.
Tip: Zoom!
On regular CTF maps, as in earlier Unreal Tournaments, you will be equipped with a translocator. Hit Q to bring it up, fire to shoot the teleport disc, and then alternate fire to port to the location of the disc. The translocator is a handy way to zip around the battlefield quickly, but won't work if you have the flag. On vehicle maps, you will instead be equipped with a hoverboard that you can access with the Q button. Unlike the translocator, you can use the hoverboard to move the flag, but any damage will send you sprawling and cause you to drop the flag. You can also hitch a ride on passing vehicles by hitting the fire key.
Tip: Don't Just Stand There!
A predictable deathmatch player is a dead deathmatch player. Keep moving at all times, and try to zig-zag, jump or otherwise move such that you can't be easily tracked by your enemies.
