Bases

Your first responsibility in most missions is to set up a base of operations. Structures in your base allow you to recruit new units or upgrade those you already have, research new technologies and manage your resource flow. In some missions you'll wind up establishing more than one base, so you can better control strategic points on the map. Keeping your base growing and well-protected is one of the most important parts of Battlecry III, since an army without a base is extremely vulnerable.

Basics

Part roleplaying adventure, part real-time strategy, Warlords Battlecry III is an exciting fantasy game of tactical warfare and character development. Your objective is to create a hero and command huge armies of magical creatures in an all-out war for control of Etheria's southern continent. The huge single-player campaign will test even the best generals, as you must establish forward bases, gather resources and manage your troops in a dangerous and wild country full of unseen threats.

Controls

Warlords Battlecry III plays like most real-time strategies -- click to select and move your hero or units, and use the interface along the bottom of the screen to issue specific orders, build new structures or navigate the campaign map. If you've played the other Warlords Battlecry games, you'll have a head start on the controls. However, Battlecry III does introduce some new concepts, particularly in how you move around the game world, that are different from its predecessors.

Heroes

Your hero is the most important unit under your control. Before the game even begins, you must create and customize a hero. With 16 races and 28 occupations to choose from, there are over 400 combinations. Each race and profession requires a different strategy, which means that Battlecry III has a lot of replayability built right in. Along with commanding your troops and seizing important strategic points, the hero is a formidable combat unit as well.

Missions

In earlier Battlecry games, you and your army conquered territories on a static world map to advance through the game. Battlecry III is slightly different; in this game, you must move through a more fully-realized adventure map and access mission nodes, which offer encounters. Some encounters are optional but may give you some bonus later on, while others must be successfully completed in order to proceed through the story. Smart commanders will do all the missions they can to gain experience.

Tip: Resource Management

Since things tend to move slowly in Battlecry III, management of your resource flow becomes that much more important. Different resources are important for different races -- Elves need more crystal, while Knights love their iron.

Tip: Birds of a Feather

Heroes are best when leading armies composed of their own native race. You'll receive combat and morale bonuses if you keep like species together.

Tip: Enemy Intelligence

The enemy AI in Battlecry III is pretty advanced, and it will take advantage of distractions and feints to draw your attention, then assault some unprotected side when you're not looking. Make sure you keep an eye on you entire territory.

Tip; Hero Stats

Try to customize your hero based on your play style -- would you prefer a hero who fights on the front lines, or one who hurls devastating spells from the back ranks? An exceptional commander or a combat machine? The possibilities are endless.

Tip: Base Evolution

Most Battlecry III missions, especially later ones, tend to evolve slowly. It takes a long time to establish everything you need in your base, so try to keep things moving along through constant construction.
